This page explains how the educational content across the Shrink Network is written, reviewed, and corrected. It applies to Shrinkopedia and the resource sites. It does not describe clinical care at shrinkMD, which follows separate medical and legal standards.
How content is written
Educational content is written in plain language for the general public. It is calm and specific. It avoids hype, fear, and shame. It explains what is known, and it is honest about what is not known or still debated.
How content is reviewed
Educational pages are medically reviewed by Shariq Refai, MD, MBA, a board-certified psychiatrist. Each page shows the reviewer's name and the date it was last reviewed. A page is not published with a review stamp until it has actually been reviewed.
What sources are used
Claims are tied to primary and authoritative sources, including the DSM-5-TR, the National Institute of Mental Health, peer-reviewed studies indexed in PubMed, and clinical practice guidelines from organizations such as the American Psychiatric Association and NICE. Sources are listed on the page.
How conflicts of interest are handled
Dr. Refai founded and has a financial interest in shrinkMD, and he earns income from his books and the Unstuck app. Wherever those are mentioned, the connection is disclosed plainly on the same page, in line with FTC guidance. The educational sites take no advertising, no affiliate commissions, and no referral fees.
How content is corrected
Mental health evidence changes. When it does, pages are updated and the last-reviewed date is changed. If you find an error, email support@shrinknetwork.com.
